Fibromyalgia is a chronic musculoskeletal pain disorder in all the body.
Women (mainly between 20-40y) are affected by fibromyalgia seven times more commonly than men.
Other symptoms are associated with the pain such as poor sleep, depression, headaches, memory difficulties, mood disturbances, generalized fatigue, dizziness and weakness. Stress often makes the symptoms of fibromyalgia worse.
Several studies suggested that stress, disordered sleep patterns, low levels of growth hormone, low levels of serotonin and tryptophan in the body could contributed to the onset of fibromyalgia. Low serotonin levels are associated with many physical and psychological symptoms such as Fatigue in spite of adequate rest, Disturbed sleep, Changes in appetite, Hot flushes and temperature changes , Headaches
The diagnosis of fibromyalgia is based on Presence of at least 11 out of 18 specific very tender areas on the body at specific locations which are recommended by the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) to diagnose individual patients.
However, it is extremely unusual that clinicians only use the criteria to diagnose the disease. In most cases, clinicians apply the criteria to their clinical experience and judgment as well as their intuitive sense to arrive at a diagnosis.
In 2004 the American Pain Society (APS) developed guidelines for the optimal treatment of fibromyalgia, For most patients, a gradual increase in low-moderate intensity aerobic exercise (e.g., walking, pool exercises, stationary bike) of 30 to 60 minutes of at least 2 to 3 times a week is best tolerated. However, supervised, group exercise may be preferable. Group education with social support may help to reduce pain behaviors and improve the symptoms of fibromyalgia. Combinations of exercise and education for patients who do not respond to a single approach.
Treatments for fibromyalgia include medications such as antidepressant or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or muscle relaxants to decrease pain and improve sleep. Steroids can be used to treat inflammation associated with other rheumatic diseases.

How we treat our patients in the Centre
Medications that increase the activity of serotonin and norepinephrine may correct a functional deficit of serotonin and norepinephrine neurotransmission in these descending inhibitory pain pathways and, therefore, help reduce pain.
We treat our patients by using new method including laseracupuncture, physiotherapy and acupuncture in addition to special diet and several vitamins. Laser-acupuncture could increase levels of serotonin and endorphins that resulting pain relief and mood enhance. About 70% of patients will improve after the first session. Many patients do not need to take NSAID or Antidepressants after the using our new method.
